In times of war, food can become an act of resistance, recipes can become archives of experience, trauma, and hope. The memory of dishes is also the memory of people, places, and events that shape our identity. How does food become a language of memory and a way to build and sustain communities even in the darkest of times?
These and other questions will be the focus of a conversation with Mariia Banko — food journalist, author, and researcher of culinary culture, and creator of the War Cookbook project, which documents and explores the impact of war on Ukrainians’ culinary practices.
The talk will be moderated by Sasha Dovzhyk — writer, editor, and head of INDEX.
