Video and photo of a lecture by Julie Bacton Gilam (USA) about aspects of buto dance

Buto (Japanese: 舞 踏, bu to: earth and foot) is a direction of modern avant-garde dance. It emerged in the middle of the twentieth century at the intersection of Japanese culture with Dadaism and other new artistic trends in Europe. Its main aspects, facts and features were discussed at a lecture at the Lviv Municipal Art Center. The speaker is Julie Becton Gilam, a teacher of buto (USA), who has been teaching dance for 40 years. Buto’s performance during the lecture was performed by her colleagues from Mexico and Turkey.
