From May 16, 2021, the Lviv Municipal Art Center invites to the exhibition of Jan Bachynsky “The First Lviv Queer”. This exhibition is an artistic reaction to the outside world through the personal experience of a queer artist and it is the third one inside the Art center.
“Social existence exists through minorities and majorities. Most are inert, being in it is safe and boring, minorities are unstable, being in it is fun and scary. Mostly between them there is a relationship of dislike and refusal of dialogue. I tell three movie stories. The first is about defeat, the second is about victory, and the third is about reconciliation. In each plot the inductive method is traced, the general collective is opened through separate personal experience. The circumstances under which and through which this works were created are no less important and interesting than the works themselves. Therefore, the exhibition also includes objects and texts that act as links to reality.”
Jan Bačynsjkyj — Lviv artist and queer director, born in 1991. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University in 2013 and from the Faculty of Multimedia of the Academy of Arts in Szczecin in 2019. He is looking for reactions to aggressive conservatism and traditionalist paranoia and explores the public space by intervening and completing elements opposite to existing ones.
