Exhibition “RUЇNS” by Anton Hudo (curated by Stina Leek)

04/12/24―05/01/25

On December 4, we invite you to the exhibition “RUINS” by Anton Hudo and Estonian artist and curator Stina Leek.

The story of their collaboration began in the summer of 2023, when Anton was in residence at the TYPA print and paper art center in Tartu, Estonia. There he also collaborated with the alternative art community Ajuokse. Stina Leek, director of the TYPA residency, coordinator and founder of Ajuokse, facilitated both projects, so she and Anton established a professional collaboration. Today this collaboration is transformed into the exhibition “RUINS” at the Municipal Art Center.

“Who are we? Are we important for history, or are we simply dust? Will future generations find us? Will they remember us as we remember the ones before us?”

While Anton Hudo is known primarily for his street art, the exhibition “RUINS” examines a more personal artistic emotion. Ranging from detailed ballpoint pen illustrations to artworks that experiment with layering and texture, Hudo maintains a distinct visual style that remains recognizable across different media.

The exhibition includes a series of illustrations developed during Anton’s artist residency at the TYPA center in Tartu, Estonia in 2023. Today, Stina came as a curator to the Municipal Art Residency in Lviv, complementing the connection between the twin cities of Tartu and Lviv.

Anton Hudo (1989, Rivne, Ukraine) is an artist, graphic artist, muralist. He began drawing at school age after a stroke, to restore his motor skills. He has entered several universities but never got a degree. He worked in a blacksmith shop and in a factory for six years. He is inspired by medieval engravings and works with a critique of modern consumer society through images of bizarre creatures.

Anton has organized and participated in art projects (“Dzyga”, Lviv, Ukraine; IZONE, Kyiv, Ukraine; Menu Zona, Klaipeda, Lithuania; Turboformat, Avignon, France, etc.) and informal festivals in Ukraine and abroad (Black Circle, Ukraine; Alarm, Ukraine; Burning Man, USA, etc.).

Stina Leek (Tartu, Estonia) is a curator, artist and cultural manager dedicated to supporting creative people from her community by creating platforms for showcasing their artwork. She creates active platforms where artists can communicate, support and inspire each other.
She is the director of the TYPA print residency, and the coordinator and founder of the alternative platform Ajuokse.

The exhibition “RUINS” is the result of a residency implemented by the NGO “Cultural Agency “Liniya Vtechi” and the team of the Municipal Art Center with the support of the Resilience Fund program in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut in Ukraine.
