18:30

Join us for an evening of theatre and poetry as part of Lana Kouchnir’s 2024 summer tour.

The evening will feature an excerpt from Lana Kouchnir’s in-development satiric monodrama entitled “Western Public Masturbator Wishes for Peace in Ukraine.” The poetry set to follow will center themes of queer Ukrainian femininity, diasporic Ukrainian identity, Russian colonization, and intergenerational grief.

Lana Kouchnir is a Ukraine-born, Toronto-based actor and multidisciplinary artist. She was named a longlisted finalist for the 2023 CBC Poetry Prize and was awarded the 2023 Shevchenko Foundation of Canada Literary Arts grant. She has shared her theatre and poetry performances for platforms such as the Summerworks Toronto Theatre Festival, the Vancouver Queer Arts Festival, Undercurrents Ottawa Festival, Toronto Pride, and Guelph University’s Speak Easy Reading Series. Her performances and writing center queer Ukrainian folklore and are driven by a transdisciplinary approach to storytelling.
