Residence

The Lviv Municipal Art Residence from November 2022 is designed to ensure the sustainability of artistic practices. The events that take place within its framework help to expand the field of work, stop at one or another project or research, and rethink one’s own activities. Event formats and directions of artistic activity of the participants will correspond to the diversity of the creative space of Ukraine today. Residences also provide psychological assistance to participants if needed.

The second thorough phase of the Municipal Art Residence began in November 2023. Its purpose is to provide Ukrainian artists with a space to restore and understand their own creative practice, work with a personal archive, the possibility of a creative restart and return to postponed projects.

The residence is primarily aimed at artists who were forced to move to Lviv from the temporarily occupied territories and need space to work on large projects, restore and expand their creative practice. The Lviv Municipal Art Center provides a space that can be used as a workshop, a space for interaction in workshops, master classes, etc., and an exhibition space.

Another group of residents are volunteer and military artists and artists, as well as friends of the center, who are involved in helping the Ukrainian army and developing civil society. Their artistic practices are often a continuation or interpretation of political practices and social activism. We believe that the residence in this case will become not only a space of recovery, but also a place where their work can be documented as evidence of “creativity-after-invasion” and become a tool for representing Ukraine in the world.
